The "Keeping Families Together" initiative by USCIS is currently on hold. If you were considering using this process, please note that the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas has issued an order preventing USCIS from implementing the initiative. As a result, USCIS is no longer accepting new applications and has canceled appointments for individuals with pending applications.
The Keeping Families Together initiative was designed to streamline the application process, minimize delays, and provide greater support to families navigating the U.S. immigration system. On August 19, 2024, USCIS introduced forms and procedures to help families apply for adjustment of status to permanent residency. However, due to the court order, USCIS has been forced to halt application processing. In response, the Biden Administration announced plans to refund $55 million in fees paid by over 94,000 applicants who sought relief through the initiative.
At Humphrey & Associates, we remain hopeful that this initiative will survive the legal challenges and gain support from the incoming administration. Family separations during immigration proceedings have been a significant concern in recent years, and we continue to advocate for solutions that prioritize keeping families together.
